INTRUDUCTION

I’m fine. consists of a series of workshops and residencies developed in communities to encourage conversations and art explorations.  In the workshops, participants create ceramic masks that represent the outward “mask” each wears to portray, hide, or minimize their emotions and mental health challenges.

MY TASK

I participated in this workshop at Carnegie Mellon University in 2023, and I made masks, while the masks I made were selected for a touring exhibition across various regions in the United States.

When I was making this mask, I thought of the 2 years of lockdown during the COVID period, 3 months unable to go outside, and not even knowing how long the food would last. Even though there was a lot of pain inside, the nature I saw from my balcony was still vibrant and full of life, which brought me great comfort at that time. So the mask I created has scars of pain as well as beautiful flowers.
